Swayze Crazy: 'Point Break' Remake in the Works

What is it about Patrick Swayze's film career that makes his movies so remakable? Are we trying to compensate for losing the actor at an all-too-young age? Or, did Swayze just make a bunch of really awesome movies?

We've already seen that "Dirty Dancing" and "Red Dawn" are set to be remade and updated, leading the charge of 80's movie remakes that also includes "Footloose."

Now, another Patrick Swayze movie has landed a deal to enter into remake-dom: the cult classic surfer cop flick "Point Break."

For those who haven't seen it, "Point Break" follows an undercover cop (Keanu Reeves) as he infiltrates a group of surfers whose leader (Patrick Swayze) has them robbing banks. The movie has gained a cult following over the years for its melodramatic style and macho mentality, not to mention Keanu Reeves' acting.

There was even a live "Point Break" stage show in Los Angeles for a stretch that allowed audience members to take Keanu's role.

The screenplay for the remake has already been written by "Salt" scribe Kurt Wimmer. The plot is said to be mostly the same, however it is being described without specific mentions of surfing, only of "extreme sports." It could be that the updated version of the movie will instead take undercover cop Johnny Utah into a ring of skateboarders, motocross riders, or...I dunno, freerunners? I guess we'll have to see.
